New Commodore Logo, Site, Blog, and Products

Commodore is revamping their site with new graphics and content and an overall reduced colour set 'look'.

Commodore scrapped the "new" italicized chicken head logo in favour of the original.

You can see the new corporate site at www.commodore-int.com ; an URL which promotes the "Commodore International" heritage. www.commodoreworld.net seems to be dead (although for now it redirects to the new URL).

The new blog site is http://www.channel64.net/ which should be up and running in a few weeks and the music store should be back on-line soon.

These changes represent not so much a re-branding but a correction to the branding. The are superficial, but important and with a new push out of the European market could help make Commodore a world brand again.

New premium CE products will be shown at IFA in September but the blog site contains some early pre-release discussions pertaining to them.

Overall this is a notable improvement and I hope that the new look, combined with the new products, produce some new energy to advance this once great entity.

You've inadvertently added a semi-colon to the www.commodore-int.com link so it doesn't work properly (or at all).

As for my thoughts on the new website, I hate the stock photo imagery. Whenever a website is littered with such photos (especially of people) it makes me think the company is, to put it bluntly, a scam. Instead of images of actual people involved with the company or company buildings, it's always some ethnically generic people or gleaming high tech looking buildings with manicured lawns and all that. Most website designers agree that when you don't have much actual content, apply the KISS rule rather than trying to punch things up with stock images which make the site look generic and vacant. Also, the muted tones are very Web 1.0. The current trends is towards more vibrant, glowing colours which convey modernity. A couple of boxes with rounded edges do not a good webpage make. It appears that Commodore International's web designer is a good five years behind the times which is funny/sad because C= itself represents an era gone by.

I'm not being critical for the sake of it. I honestly think their new website falls flat on its face and they need to find a web designer with a better understanding of the current zeitgeist.

Hi gklinger;

Thanks for pointing out the link issue. I have fixed it.

As far as the content goes, I will agree that it could be much better. However, you just have to agree with me that it is dramatically better than its predicessor. The old site had too much colour, links that failed, a store that had perpetual MySQL problems and looked like it was written in 1996.

The new site is a step in the right direction.
