Commodore 64 Games on the Nintendo Wii

Post by administrator »

Rumours (since 2006!) of Commodore 64 games being downloadable and playable on the Nintendo Wii, are now a fact:

http://www.commodoregaming.com/wii/
Already a firm favourite with Wii owners, the Virtual Console is once again expanding its catalogue, this time with the addition of a whole new games format. Later this year, Wii owners will be able to enjoy classic titles from the best selling personal computer of all time, the Commodore 64. These titles join classic gems from the likes of Nintendo, SEGA, NEC (Turbografx-16) and SNK (NEO GEO), that are already available via the Wii Shop Channel.

The Virtual Console is a unique feature of Nintendo's revolutionary Wii video game console that allows players to download games through the Internet. The Virtual Console offers Wii users hours of enjoyment with classic games that were previously released for older-generation game consoles and home computers.

The first Commodore C64 titles that will appear on the Virtual Console are:

International Karate
Uridium
It is expected that the games will cost 5000 Wii points which translates to US$5 .

One site claims that 95% of C64 games will be available on the Wii within the next year. I have no first hand knowledge of the plan so I can not confirm or refute this claim.

This deal makes more business sense than any other Commodore annoucement in the past 2 years although I see it has not affected the stock price even 1 cent. This may be because the growing financial scandal has overshadowed such a positive announcement. see: viewtopic.php?t=1265

Not sure what's happening in Japan, but for North America the first three C64 games for the Wii console are "International Karate", "Pitstop II" and "The Last Ninja"...
Watch a video I made here: http://www.ipernity.com/doc/virtualsky/4320476/

The cost of each of the games is 500 Wii points, which equals $5.00.

One of the big benefits to playing the C64 games via the Wii console..... not having to wait for the disks to load! :D

I'm very anxious to see what games are released next.

IIRC, Commodore Gaming is putting out these games to other platforms.

Another way to make money
other than selling the C= Gaming PCs,

On Monday I noticed that "Summer Games II" is now available for Wii's Virtual Console.

What I'm really waiting for is my "Space Taxi", "Gyruss" and "Test Drive".
