Link two 1541 on my commodore 64

Post by Axis »

Hello all,

I linked two 1541 drive on my C64 to make copy but i have a problem.

In fact, i switch on each 1541 before to switch on my C64, the red led of each drive light on.

when i make load"$",8, the c64 fails at the first 1541, that link directly to c64. I have a "?file not found error"

I try each serial entry independently of my two 1541 and the C64 see it.

It's as if the C64 could not see the difference between the two 1541.
What's wrong ?

Thanks so much for your response.

I found how to synchronize with Hack'em copy (double hack'em)
but Is there a command for synchronized without this program?

Thanx again.

Regards.

My guess is that both 1541's are wired as device #8, which is the default. You cannot have two devices connected to your C64 with the same device #. You need to change one of the 1541's to device #9. There are two methods for changing the device number: hardware and software. The hardware method is permanent, but it involves opening your disk drive and cutting one of the jumper traces. The software method is easy to do, but when you reset the disk drive, it'll default back to device 8, so you have to perform the software method each time. I'm guessing that you figured out how to use the software method with the help of Fast Hack 'Em. Both methods are explained in the 1541 User Manual. If you don't have an original copy of the manual, you can download one here.

Oh, that is what Axis meant. I didn't understand the problem.
