Double-ick! Friday, received a message on the answering machine from a *new* person at the Plaza Hotel catering dept.. She wants all the details of CommVEx again! :-/ Well, Tuesday I will be in Las Vegas, and Wednesday there had better be someone there to do all the explaining to me in-person!
Spent almost 12 hours today finding hardware and software for CommVEx... digging in the house... going to the storage facility... moving it all into the car... and all under the hot California sun. Did the clothes get wet with perspiration! A bit red on the tip of my nose for being out in that sun. Just water and soda and iced tea to keep me going all day. Finally had some food late at night. I'm tired. Just before I meet up with Larry Anderson and his wife on Tuesday, I'll have to repack the car again to make room for them. Then it's off to Las Vegas!

Just got the car back from Sears -- all new shocks and replaced another tire. Before Larry and his wife arrive, I'll have to change the spark plugs and replace the oil filter.
Now sorting through CommVEx items before repacking,

Larry and I went to the catering office today, and first met up with Kathryn who had trouble finding our records. Then Maylin and Doreen showed up, and after much shuffling of papers on their part and much frowning in disbelief and repeating myself on my part, they finally got organized, had me sign a few more forms, and rebooked us into the room which I had agreed to last year (they moved us to a different room without my permission!!!).
I've got the wireless bridge/router configured now, so there will be high speed internet (well as least as fast as this 10-baseT router provides.) So any one needing to get connection to the net on a 64 or more modern PC will have a wired route.
This will be a good topic for filler material, since I have all the example hardware for connecting an Ethernet enabled 64 to a network.

When I was dealing with Jules, our conversation was interrupted by a phone call. He answered and talked to the person about getting Elvis or Marilyn for a show. After the call was finished, I asked him, "How much does it cost to hire Elvis or Marilyn Monroe for a show?" He responded that it would cost $200 a day.

At this month's FCUG meeting, I gave our treasurer the final numbers on CommVEx v3. To my way of reckoning, we broke even on the show. However, unlike last year's CommVEx in which we had a carry-over of monies to devote to this year's show, there will be no carry-over for next year's show. That means we'll have to work extra hard to make sure that CommVEx v4 pays for itself.

At this month's club meeting, our treasurer showed me the printout of his spreadsheet for CommVEx. After much clarification and manipulation of the numbers, we found out we have a small carryover of money for next year's CommVEx v4! Hurrah!
