Bad sockets on 2001 board

Interesting weekend. been pulling my hair out trying to bring a pair of 2001 boards back to life. One suspected bad main ram, the other the 74244 bus buffers on the CPU address bus or the 74154 rom select mux.

6 hours later the culprit on the latter was pin 18 on one of the rom sockets. it looks seated - and has been reseated several times - but it just wasn't making contact.

About 40 pounds of pressure on one "side" of the rom brings it to life.

Anyone know of the white low profile plastic sockets going south? Or more importantly, if not - might be something to check if you've got a problem that's being a pain to find. I can't wait to see if the other board has a similar problem.
