Commodore.ca: The PET, VIC, 128, 64 & More Forum

Hello,

I just bought a PET and now need a printer for it. Can I use a new printer (example: HP Deskjet) with this printer, or do I need to buy an old printer? If I can use the HP, what do I need to do?

There is not a ready way to use a new printer on a Commodore 8 bit machine. However, you can connect older dot matrix pc printers using an adaptor. Your best bet is to buy a Commodore Printer for $5. You can source them from our buy/sell forum or on eBay (among other places)

What type of adapter cable should I buy. If I'm correct, the VIC-20 & C64 used the serial port to connect to the printer. The PET does not have a serial port. Can you recommend a cable? Thanks!
