Blank screen syndrome experienced by early C64
I have been working on my faulty C64 and it appears that something on the board is shorting out. I went over all of the chips with an oscilloscope, and on startup, it resets the chips but then locks up when trying to read the ROM. The five volt regulator after a minute, gets incredibly hot. So hot that I cannot touch it, or I will get burned. I'm hoping that it will just be a simple fix of scraping away some corrosion, and not having to replace an entire chip. If the five volt regulator is faulty, I can get another one.

That isn't right; it shouldn't get that hot.TangentDelta wrote:The five volt regulator after a minute, gets incredibly hot. So hot that I cannot touch it, or I will get burned.
