CommVEx v7, July 23-24, 2011

Post by rbernardo »

Some people have already asked me whether there is another Commodore Vegas Expo for next year... and the answer is yes! On Monday after this year's CommVEx, I signed the Plaza Hotel catering contract for next year for Jockey Room 1, paid the $300 deposit, and signed the accomodations contract for next year, too. So, get your ready for CommVEx v7 on Saturday and Sunday, July 23 and 24, in 2011.

The hotel just cut-and-pasted from this year's contract,

Today I found out that most of the Plaza Hotel will be closed for well over year while they renovate the place. Here's more information on its closure

http://www.8newsnow.com/Global/story.asp?S=13146915

I called up Adora at the Plaza Hotel catering department and asked whether we should move CommVEx across the street to the sister hotel, the Vegas Club Hotel and whether I should ask Plaza Hotel group sales about getting a block of room accommodations over at the Vegas Club. Adora told me they won't know any thing for sure until Thursday.

She also said that the Vegas Club had an equivalent room to our usual CommVEx room, Jockey Room 1 in the Plaza Hotel.

Though I wasn't around, I received a reply on my answering machine. Yes, CommVEx will be moving to the Vegas Club Hotel & Casino at 18 E. Fremont St. (across the street from the Plaza Hotel), Las Vegas, Nevada 89101, phone number (800) 634-6532 toll-free or (702) 385-1664. The website is http://www.vegasclubcasino.net

There will be a block of rooms set aside for CommVEx attendees, just as there had been at the Plaza Hotel.

I will get more details from Adora on Monday.

Truly,

More details about the move to the Vegas Club Hotel. CommVEx v7 will be in the Left Field Room (a baseball theme) on the third floor of the Vegas Club Hotel. Though I have not seen the room, Adora says she will e-mail me a floor plan of the room, assures me that we will have the same table/seating arrangement as in past years, and remarks that there will be enough electrical outlets for our computer needs. She is sending over a revised contract, as is Ellen Taylor from Group Sales who is sending over a revised contract for a block of room accommodations in the Vegas Club Hotel.

I received the following message below in regards to the Plaza Hotel, which will undergo renovations. Attached were photos of the upgraded accomodations after the renovation (with probably higher room prices). The photos showed new, color-coordinated furniture and bedding, a modernized/stylish bathroom, and new flat-screen television and wall decorations.

COMING 2011 -- Newly Renovated Plaza Rooms!

This November, we will be closing all 1,036 rooms at the Plaza Hotel and Casino for complete room renovations and upgrades. During this exciting time, the casino will remain open, but will be minimized to accommodate business levels. Our sister property, the Las Vegas Club Hotel and Casino, will accommodate all room reservations until renovations are complete at the Plaza in September 2011. So plan your trips as usual. See you at the Las Vegas Club!

Vegas Club rooms start at $22 a night! Call 1-800-634-6575 to book your stay now!

Though it took awhile, all contracts for conference room and accomodations have now been signed for the Vegas Club Hotel.

I still have not been sent the floor plan layout of the Left Field Room in the Vegas Club Hotel. Instead of my driving 5 1/2 hours to Las Vegas to examine the room, I'll ask a member or two of the Clark County Commodore Computer Club (of Las Vegas) to take photos of the room and send them to me.

Better than driving all the way over there,

There is a new CommVEx poster on the front page of the website. Designed by Larry Anderson, the poster has the VIC-20 packaging look to it, and why not since it is the 30th anniversary of the VIC-20. Just go to

http://www.portcommodore.com/commvex

and click on DOWNLOAD COMMVEX POSTER, and they you'll be able to print out the beautiful .pdf.

Adora seems to be out, and now I'm dealing with the Group Sales department instead of the Catering department.

The office workers change... so what else is new?

Just as in previous years, there will be late night video viewing in the CommVEx room. So, while you attendees are playing and/or programming with the Commodores and Amigas, on the video projector will be playing that quintessential, cyberpunk 1980's t.v. show, "Max Headroom".

I still say those are disguised PETs
in the control room,

The final payment has been sent to the hotel for CommVEx. There's no turning back now. :)

I just got back from the Netherlands Commodore Show, and co-organizer Ron van Schaik and I talked about running a show, among other things. He told about his experiences of running his show for 10, 12, 14 years, and I talked about mine. Keeping the attendees happy is always important. He provides plenty of refreshments during his show.

Remember, at CommVEx, soft drinks and snacks are provided with your admission! :)

Last night, we took a glance at the Left Field conference room here at the Las Vegas Club Hotel. To get to it especially easily, take the North Tower elevators to the third floor and go to the end of the hall. The room has a capacity of 125 persons! The very deluxe restrooms are right across from the conference room.
