Got a c64 breadbox style from fleabay as untested. pluged it all in to find out it was booting up to a black screen, :( if rapidly turnd on and off it comes up with one color or flashes so iv identified the problem to be the pla chip. :?:

As far as i know they stoped making these chips over 10 years ago, so was just wondering dose any one know how to repair/replace the chip in question and where about on the c64 mobo is it?

sorry newbie here

Modern replacements for the PLA chip are available from Ray Carlsen here in the U.S. and from Francois Leveille in Canada.

Look for its number, 906114-01 or 906114, on the board. On an older brown C64, it's to the right of the 6510 CPU.

You have to send him a private message at rcarlsen(at)tds.net

After any desoldering of the old chip and installation of a socket, you just put in the new replacement chip, and away you go. Nothing else has to be done.

Heh, Francois Leveille in Canada sells them for $8 Canadian (not including postage) which is 5.17 pounds UK.
