Yes, that's right! Contracts signed, deposit made, accomodations reserved. The Commodore Vegas Expo is set for July 26-27 in Jockey Room 1 at the Plaza Hotel, 1 Main Street, in Las Vegas. Mark your calendars, plan you vacation time... think CommVEx v4 for next year.
Truly,

For CommVEx v4, the Plaza Hotel will have rooms available for the same price as this year, i.e., $60/night Friday and Saturday, and $30/night Sunday, excluding taxes.

Though our club treasurer, Dick Estel, really wants to go to CommVEx v4, he has a massive coast-to-coast RV trip planned for next summer and will only arrive back on the West Coast a few days before CommVEx. That's cutting it close! I'm hoping he has the energy for a little more travel to Las Vegas.
At least I will have been in the U.S. for a couple of weeks before CommVEx v4; my planned return from Europe is around July 10.

Spoke to Dick Estel today at the club's picnic/dinner. Seems that he is not very hopeful about making it to CommVEx v4. He had such a great demonstration planned -- the use of Big Blue Reader in converting Commodore files to those readable by PCs (he's currently converting 127 (!) single-side 5 1/4" disks and the files within them to Word documents for a person in Canada). Maybe I can videotape his demonstration and present it to CommVEx.

Another successful show at the Vintage Computer Festival 10.0 Nov. 3-4! Not only did our FCUG sales table pay for itself but the leftover money will help to fund CommVEx v4.

Thanks to very good hardware sales at the last few SCCAN (Southern California Commodore/Amiga Network) meetings, more money was earned, and that will be devoted to paying down CommVEx.

Just met with the Plaza Hotel people an hour ago. The employment revolving door turns! People that I dealt with last year... gone. Julia, the new, two-months-on-the-job catering salesperson, re-verified CommVEx for this weekend, but was unable to tell the pricing of getting a "hard-wired" telephone line into the conference room. I will have to wait until tomorrow morning at 9 in order to ask the tech who is charge of that. (That's cutting it close for the Andy Finkel interview.)
I asked if we were allowed to start packing the conference room early on Friday afternoon (as has been our tradition). With the new management in place, she will have to ask her boss, but she herself sees no problem with the request.
Spoke with the people in charge of the Plaza Hotel's Lucky 7 Buffet (all-you-can-eat Chinese and American food for $7.77). I told them that our group would come down from the conference room at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday for the traditional after-show eating splurge. No problem was their reply. The newly-expanded buffet has plenty of space to handle our group.
Oh, like last year, in the big exhibit hall next to us will be a furniture show. Pick up the dream living room and bedroom set that you've always wanted.
CommVEx in 2 days!

I started packing the room at around 2:30 p.m.. About 4 p.m. Dick Estel came in to help. Then Justin Pope from Tucson, Arizona and then Yul Haasman from the 5C's in Las Vegas. It sure felt good to have all the help and comradery. About 8:40 we called it quits for the night... and the room still isn't ready! That means we have our work cut out for us when we return to the room between 8 and 9 on Saturday morning in preparation for the 11 a.m. official opening.
CommVEx tomorrow!

Dick Estel took 99% of the pics this year, and I've already sent him an inquiry about when they wil be posted. As for my videos, they are still on tape and haven't been edited yet.

I'm looking forward to it.
