Next FCUG meeting - Sunday, July 17

Post by rbernardo »

Happy summer, C= and Amiga aficionados!

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 1+ p.m., Sunday, July 17, at --

The Pizza Pit Restaurant
2705 N. Blackstone Ave. (corner of Blackstone and Princeton)
Fresno, California

With only a few days until the July 23-24 Commodore Vegas Expo, we'll have an update on all the developments that will happen at CommVEx. I'll also report on my month in Europe with visits to the Lincolnshire Amiga Group, the Amiga North Thames club, the Netherlands Commodore Show, AmigaKit, and the Dienstagstreff Commodore Club meeting. For your hardware pleasure, we'll dig into the inner workings of a PET 8296-D computer, the last PET that Commodore produced in 1985-1986. And as usual, we'll try to catch up on our backlog of C= program presentations.

Truly,
Robert Bernardo

Next SCCAN meeting - Sunday, September 11

Post by rbernardo »

Happy Labor Day, Commodore and Amiga fans!

The Southern California Commodore & Amiga Network (SCCAN) has its next meeting on Sunday, September 11, from 2 p.m. to 4+ p.m.. This month's meeting is at --

Panera Bread Restaurant
19662 Nordhoff St. (exit from I-405)
Northridge, CA 91324-2421
(818) 407-9400

For the September meeting I'm bringing my Amiga 2000 with 5 meg RAM. OS 3.1, ECS chips, CD-ROM drive, and 2 gig SCSI hard drive. Thanks to The Other Group of Amigoids member, Duncan M., for refurbishing the computer.

I'll also be bringing the ArcadeRetroGaming.com Multiple Classic Computer 216 (MCC-216), VGA version, with C64, A500, and Atari 2600 cores. If SCCAN member Matt brings his, we can compare machines! One more machine coming in... a PAL CD-32 newly obtained from England and including a good selection of games.

On the Commodore side, I'll bring the SX-64 and will show off Digimaster 64, the program that captures sound samples in 8-bit audio quality and that uses the new Sound Ultimate Xpander 6400 (SUX 6400) sound digitizer.

Don't forget to bring your Commodore and Amiga goodies to show off/demonstrate.

Anyone interested in possibly starting one?

Next FCUG meeting - Sunday, September 18

Post by rbernardo »

Happy almost autumn, C= and Ami aficionados!

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 1+ p.m., Sunday, September 18, at --

The Pizza Pit Restaurant
2705 N. Blackstone Ave. (corner of Blackstone and Princeton)
Fresno, California

This month we'll discuss news from the classic Commodore hardware company, Jason Ranheim. In software, we will study the new Scene World #17 disk magazine and MicroDesigns' C128 software, “Starship Battles 128” and “Space Pirates 128”. In hardware, (if they get here in time) we'll look at the newly-developed PETdisk and review EasyFlash 1 (now reflashed with a PDXCUG.org image which includes CommodoreServer.com software and lots of games). Also the Sound Ultimate Xpander 6400 (SUX 6400) should be back in-stock, and anyone who wants one can now buy it (and get its accompanying Digimaster 64 software).

Last month we took a brief look at a bare Amiga 2000 before it went under the upgrade knife; now, we look at the A2000 upgraded with 4 meg Fast RAM. OS 3.1, ECS chips, CD-ROM drive, 2 gig SCSI hard drive, and plenty of games and demos. Last month we took a brief look at a PAL CD-32; this month we'll look at a huge box of A500, A1200, and CD32 games brought back from England.

Too, too much,

FCUG picnic lunch - Sunday, October 16

Post by rbernardo »

Happy almost Halloween, C= and Ami aficionados!

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its annual picnic lunch from 11 a.m. to 1+ p.m., Sunday, October 16, at --

Tahoe Joe's Steakhouse
7006 N. Cedar Ave. (corner of Cedar and Herndon)
Fresno, California

In lieu of our usual monthly meeting with various Commodore and Amiga presentations, we'll be chowing down on some really good food. Usually little gifts are exchanged, but this year my car is loaded with the remainder of Commodore items from the Jason Ranheim Company, a well-known retail Commodore vendor from the 1980's and 1990's. Thanks to Judy Ranheim, widow of owner John Ranheim, these goods were donated to our club a week ago, and members at the lunch can pick out what they need. Photos of some of the items can be seen at

Next SCCAN meeting - Saturday, November 5

Happy Return to Standard Time, C= and Ami aficionados!

The Southern California Commodore & Amiga Network (SCCAN) has its next meeting on Saturday, November 5, from 2 p.m. to 4+ p.m.. This

At our last meeting at Panera Bread, the employees and customers were very interested in the Amiga and Commodore materials being shown.

Once again, I'll also be bringing the ArcadeRetroGaming.com Multiple Classic Computer 216 (MCC-216), VGA version, with C64, A500, and Atari 2600 cores - this time with more Amiga games! Next FCUG meeting - Sunday, November 20

Post by rbernardo »

Happy Thanksgiving time, C= and Ami aficionados!

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 1+ p.m., Sunday, November 20, at --

Dick Estel's place
(a second e-mail with map directions will be
sent to those who are attending)

Why the change in meeting place? Because we needed a tranquil setting for our special guest, CBM engineer Bil Herd, who will be video-chatting with us! Bil was involved in the development of the Commodore Plus/4 computer and was the lead engineer for the Commodore 128.

We plan to record this event for later viewing, and Bil will have a live feed from his end of the chat; just go to

Estimated time of the start of the chat - 11:30 a.m. Pacific Time.

We are still gathering questions for Bil, and even if you can't make the meeting, send those questions in, and we'll ask Bil.

Naturally, in keeping with the nature of our special guest, we'll have a presentation of the C128 Video DAC, the hardware which connects the C128 to a VGA monitor in 80-columns and in all of its 16 colors. We'll have a repeat presentation of the Megabit ROM adapter which adds 32K of programs into the empty socket of the C128.

Even with all of this on our plate, we might have another special guest (or two) walking in through the front door.

So though the end time of the meeting is 1+ p.m.., think more like 1+++. And we wouldn't let attending members go hungry... there'll be pizza and soda, pizza courtesy of our good friends at the Pizza Pit Restaurant of Fresno.

Truly,
Robert Bernardo

Merry Christmas, C= and Ami aficionados!

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 1+ p.m., Sunday, December 18, at --

The Pizza Pit Restaurant
2705 N. Blackstone Ave. (corner of Blackstone and Princeton)
Fresno, California

This month we take a closer look at a modded PET 2001 computer which came from the Jason Ranheim Company. This PET 2001 comes with a rare Expand-O-Mem board that gives another 32K of memory. On the fun side, we have the return of ArcadeRetroGaming.com's Multiple Classic Computer 216 (MCC-216), this time with the latest C64, Amiga, and Atari 2600 cores and even more games. We also have a brief look at the November Bil Herd interview video, the one filmed on our side of the chat and which has improved audio. Naturally, we'll talk about such Commodore topics as the next year's July 28-29 Commodore Vegas Expo and the ThunderDrive hard drive. Finally, in the spirit of Christmas, several Bombjack.org DVDs (filled with scanned C= magazines) will be distributed.
