I recently aqquired a Commodore 128, and adore it. but I have no method of saving programs. how can I connect a tape recorder to my C-128?

You can screw around with cutting cables and getting special connectors, or you could just spend $3 or $4 on a C= tape drive. Contact one of a dozen people selling their equipement from our BUY/SELL forum viewforum.php?f=3
or you could contact your local C= club or you could by one on eBay.

Personally, I would just buy a disk drive and floppies from someone in our BUY/SELL forum. But you could also buy 1541 from eBay:

or better yet, a 1581:
