Problem with Commodore Ultimax - no video

Post by krispy »

I just recently purchased a Commodore Ultimax, but it is not showing any video on my TV. The unit is getting power, because the cassette is getting power, but no video. I think these are NTSC units, but you only get Channel 1 or 2, vs our North American Commodores which have channel 3 or 4.

Any ideas anyone?

Because the MAX Machine is minor derivative of the 64, you will likely find the C64 Diagnostic grid to be useful, see:

MAX Machine Problems

Post by krispy »

Thanks for the information.

I also found out that the the Max machine does not have any ROM built in and it access this information from the cartridges that are plugged in. Waiting for them to show up from a friend in Germany to test. I'll keep you posted.

Still no video showing up even after cartridge is inserted. I'll have to follow your previous link to see if there is anything I can do. It is a real shame since cosmetically the unit is the nicest one I have ever seen online.

Just kidding - i'm guessing maybe it's some sort of PAL problem..?

With "no video showing" you mean only static or a black screen ?

If it's only static, you'r tv probably isn't able to tune-in on channel 1 or 2 of this japanese unit.
Even if you have no cartridge inserted, you should get a black picture.
