Happy Easter, C= and Ami aficionados!

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 1:30+ p.m., Sunday, April 10, at

Panera Bread Restaurant
3590 W Shaw Ave. (corner of W. Shaw Ave. and Marty Ave.)
Fresno, CA 93711
(559) 271-0104
http://www.dickestel.com/meet_loc.htm

During our discussion time, we’ll talk about the Southern California Commodore & Amiga Network’s Commodore/Amiga exhibit at last Saturday’s City of STEM festival…. photos and video included. Of course, we’ll also talk about the April 22-24 Vintage Computer Festival East and the June 24-25 Commodore Los Angeles Super Show (hey, more prizes being listed for CLASS!).

In the hardware/software part of the meeting, we will run at a few of the 500+ C128 80-column text adventures made available from Thanatos! (How many can we go through?!) Then we will run some of the latest VIC-20 games from the SD2IEC. The Muppet Learning Keys tablet returns, this time with instructions so we can go through the various sections of its C64 software. Finally, we’ll round off the meeting with viewing more C64 nuvies that were recently downloaded.

Truly,

Happy Mother’s Day, C= and Ami aficionados!

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 1:30+ p.m., Sunday, May 15, at

Panera Bread Restaurant
3590 W Shaw Ave. (corner of W. Shaw Ave. and Marty Ave.)
Fresno, CA 93711
(559) 271-0104
http://www.dickestel.com/meet_loc.htm

During our discussion time, I’ll report on the Vintage Computer Festival East that was held in New Jersey. I'll even show off a C128 Neo board that was bought at the show. Then we’ll talk about the June 24-25 Commodore Los Angeles Super Show and even the August Vintage Computer Festival West in Mountain View, California.

For the hardware/software part of the meeting, the VIC-20 returns with SD2IEC. We check out an Amiga 3000 which has a SCSI2SD card drive, 16 megs of Fast RAM via a ZIP-to-SIMM adapter, OS 3.1, and a huge amount of WHDLoad games. (This A3000 had extremely bad motherboard damage but was brought back to life by Duncan M. and Francis B. from the South Bay area.)

If we have time, we’ll power up the Ultimate 64 and look through the latest C64 software for May.

After the meeting, Bernardo Studios opens up in Fresno so that CLASS presentations can be filmed. :)

Happy May, C= and Ami comrades!

The next meeting of the Southern California Commodore & Amiga Network is Saturday, May 21, from 2 to 5+ p.m. at

Panera Bread Restaurant
19662 Nordhoff Street
Northridge, California
(818) 407-9400

For discussion, we'll talk about the June 25-26 Commodore Los Angeles Super Show to be held at the Burbank VFW hall. If you have any ideas/presentations/hardware for the show, now is the time to tell!

We’ll play around with some of the latest C64 apps released since our March meeting, such as a bug-fixed Flight Simulator II, the Basil PET emulator, the Great Giana Sisters PETSCII, Sheep in Space, Tasered in the Crotch, and various nuvies. We’ll try out a resurrected Amiga 3000 (OS 3.1, 2 meg Chip RAM, 16 meg Fast RAM via ZIP-to-SDRAM adapter, SCSI-to-SD hard drive), courtesy of the repair skills of Duncan M. and Steven B. of The Other Group of Amigoids, our sister club in San Jose. Perhaps member Mario L. will bring a laptop with Amiga Forever running on it. :)

I’ll show off souvenirs I picked up at the April Vintage Computer Festival East. As always, feel free to bring any other Commodore and Amiga hardware/software that you wish to show off!

Happy almost Father’s Day, C= and Ami aficionados!

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 1:30+ p.m., Sunday, June 12, at

Panera Bread Restaurant
3590 W Shaw Ave. (corner of W. Shaw Ave. and Marty Ave.)
Fresno, CA 93711
(559) 271-0104
http://www.dickestel.com/meet_loc.htm

Note that the our usual meeting, which would have been on the third Sunday of the month (June 19), was going to be on the same day as Father's Day. And so, that is why the club meeting was moved to June 12.

This is our big meeting before the June 25-26 Commodore Los Angeles Super Show at the Burbank VFW hall. We’ll talk about the latest happenings at the show, and even at this late time, if you have any suggestions for CLASS, let us know.

In our hardware/software part of the meeting, member David S. may be bringing his A500 Mini which he just received a few days ago! We look at a SD2IEC for the Commodore Plus/4 (or any Commodore that has a serial port and can have SD2IEC power taken from the user port). If it's assembled in time, we'll examine the Retro-Printer Module with its Raspberry Pi 4B (still gotta get the Epson EcoTank ET-3850 printer for the RPM).

Using the Ultimate 64, we'll go through the latest C64 software from May and June.

Truly,

Not everything will have an international flavor… we’ll also talk about the October Amiwest Show in Sacramento, California.

We’ll try out the classic C64 games, Flunky and Spitting Image (both with Queen Elizabeth II in them), and other royal games, Split Personalities, Di’s Baby, and Henry’s House (thanks for the suggestions, friends on Facebook’s Commodore 64/128). Other classics that we will have on hand – Scarabaeus, Scarabaeus II Preview, Cabal, and the updated Elite which is now flicker-free! Not to forget the updated copier application – Fast Hack ‘Em 9.9.

FCUG picnic lunch - October 30, 2022

Post by rbernardo »

Happy Filipino-American Month, C= and Ami aficionados!

As usual in October, the Fresno Commodore User Group does not have a regular club meeting but a club "picnic" lunch. See the forwarded announcement below, written by our club treasurer, Dick Estel.

Back from Europe,
Robert Bernardo
Fresno Commodore User Group
http://www.dickestel.com/fcug.htm

------ Forwarded message ------

Our annual "picnic," which in reality is lunch at a restaurant, will take place starting at 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 30.

The location is El Rodeo Mexican Restaurant, 40 W Shaw Ave, Suite 101, Clovis on the southwest corner of Shaw and Minnewawa..

Traveling east on Shaw from Fresno, turn right at the traffic light at Minnewawa. Go to the second driveway into the shopping center, The restaurant is in a row of stores at the far south side of the area, close to Minnewawa.

If you are coming from the north, note that Minnewawa goes north only to Bullard.

Do not attempt to drive south from Herndon or any location south of that on nearby Villa. There is major construction on this street and it is closed between Barstow and Bullard, although conditions may change by October 30.

Happy Halloween, C= and Ami comrades!

The next meeting of the Southern California Commodore & Amiga Network is Saturday, Nov. 5, from 2 to 5+ p.m. at

Panera Bread Restaurant
19662 Nordhoff Street
Northridge, California
(818) 407-9400

For discussion, I'll talk about the October 22-23 Amiwest Show 2022 and the distant Commodore Los Angeles Super Show 2023 and the Pacific Commodore Expo NW 2023 in Seattle! We'll also talk about member and friend Matt Brewer who passed away recently.

In hardware we'll try out the newly-purchased TheC64 Maxi from Retro-Games, LTD. (perhaps with a USB stick that adds thousands of games!) Also the trustworthy Amiga 600 returns.

Because of Matt's funeral services on the Nov. 12, my trip to the Pacific NW is delayed until Nov. 14, so this is really the last meeting before I see C= repair person, Ray Carlsen. Bring your C= gear, and I will deliver it to him for repair.

As always, feel free to bring any other Commodore and Amiga hardware/software that you wish to show off!

Happy turn-back-the clocks weekend, C= and Ami aficionados! :)

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 2:00+p.m., Sunday, Nov. 13, at

Panera Bread Restaurant
3590 W Shaw Ave. (corner of W. Shaw Ave. and Marty Ave.)
Fresno, CA 93711
(559) 271-0104
http://www.dickestel.com/meet_loc.htm

I will be telling about my adventures in Europe! From a visit to AmigaKit in Cardiff (Wales) to a club meeting of the Lincoln Amiga Group to a trip to the Dienstagstreff Commodore Club (which really should be called Samstag now) in Bochum, Germany to the National Museum of Computing in Bletchley Park (England) to the HomeComputer Museum in Helmond, the Netherlands, and to the Netherlands Commodore Show in Maarssen. Photos and short videos included!

Also I will talk about the grueling filming schedule during the October Amiwest Show. (Ask me about how jet lag affected my filming!) There are also a few goodies obtained at Amiwest.

In hardware we try out TheC64 Maxi from Retro Games, Ltd.. This newly-bought computer was picked up directly from the Menkind store at the County Mall in Crawley, England. It works perfectly, and an original, brown Commodore 64 will be brought in for comparison to TheC64.

The day after the meeting, I'll be traveling to the Pacific Northwest... last call for your repair items for C= technician Ray Carlsen.

Merry Christmas, C= and Ami aficionados! :)

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 2:00+p.m., Sunday, Dec. 18, at

Panera Bread Restaurant
3590 W Shaw Ave. (corner of W. Shaw Ave. and Marty Ave.)
Fresno, CA 93711
(559) 271-0104
http://www.dickestel.com/meet_loc.htm

Cases of Covid, the flu, and RSV are up. Come vaccinated to be on the safe side.

For discussion, we have the election of club officers. We also will discuss the April 1 City of STEM/LA Maker Faire 2023 and the Commodore Los Angeles Super Show 2023 now set for April 14-15.

Last month I had a slideshow of my visit to the National Museum of Computing in Bletchley Park (England). This time we'll see pics from the Lincoln Amiga Group in Lincoln, England. Don't forget to ask me about Amiga news from AmigaKit (and I've brought new Amiga magazines).

In hardware TheC64 Maxi returns, this time with after-market USB sticks full of hundreds and hundreds of games to run on the Maxi. We also look at new (like Eye of the Beholder) and classic programs (like Story Maker) for the C128 or the C128 in C64 mode. We'll try out new programs for the VIC-20 (like Triangular uOS).

Also I'll be bringing back repaired items from our C= repair tech and friend, Ray Carlsen. The repaired items include a Plus/4 and Roger's VIC-20.

Happy New Year, C= and Ami comrades!

The next meeting of the Southern California Commodore & Amiga Network is Saturday, Jan. 14, from 2 to 5+ p.m. at

Panera Bread Restaurant
19662 Nordhoff Street
Northridge, California
(818) 407-9400

For discussion, I'll talk about the April 1 Los Angeles Maker Faire and the April 15-16 Commodore Los Angeles Super Show. Especially the latter show as I will be asking everyone what they intend to exhibit. :) Not only that but I’ll be dishing the gossip on the June Pacific Commodore Expo NW in Seattle. (And if I haven’t told about my September trip to AmigaKit, I can tell the juicy details!)

In hardware TheC64 Maxi returns with Ami64’s TheC64 Enhancer USB stick that has hundreds of C64 and some VIC-20 games and Retro8BitShop’s Top 100 USB stick for TheC64. Also the Ultimate 64 returns with holiday (Halloween through Christmas) games running off its USB stick. The Amiga 600 returns, this time with a 16 gig CompactFlash card formatted with OS 3.2 and running the Arcade Game Selector front-end over WHDLoad 18.8.

I’m bringing back items repaired C= repair person, Ray Carlsen, and will be showing off his new C64 and Amiga external power supplies that have analog (think: VU meters) voltmeters/ammeters and 1541 drives modded to have modern, cool-running, internal power supplies!
