CommVEx is a FRIENDLY show!

Post by rbernardo »

I've just informed by a CommVEx attendee that he was not treated with respect by others at the show. I cannot emphasize this enough... CommVEx is a FRIENDLY show! The Commodore Vegas Expo has always been an open and public show. Photos and video are freely allowed unless we are notified that something is top secret and should not be shared. Everybody is there to have a good time, to share in their Commodore and Amiga passions. There is no room for bullies, and that means no verbal bullying, too. Leave any hateful attitudes, any snobbery, any kind of elitism at home.

As an attendee, if you cannot abide by the above rules, then we don't want you at CommVEx. That's right... stay away from CommVEx. If you think that you are superior, that you are a gift to the C= world, then we don't want you. And if you do show up with any kind of hate, then you will be shown the door.

We are all equal at CommVEx. We are all there to have fun. The experts, the amateurs, the old-timers, the newbies, the power users, the average users, the programmers, the enthusiasts, the hackers, the non-hackers, the old, the young, and anybody in-between -- all are equal, and all are welcome. The haters are definitely not welcome.

Sincerely,

Sorry, but I find this kind of hard to believe. I have never seen anything even remotely close to someone being disrespectful at any CommVEx that I have attended. I can perhaps see if people were working on a project (as is common at CommVEx) that someone might not get speedy answers to questions that have, but I don't think anyone has ever flat out been filtered out intentionally. I know I spend a lot of time bouncing back and forth between groups, working on various problems so I don't see everything going on. As a sponsor, it concerns me that this even brought up. I would like to know more details about it if possible and how we can correct any issue(s) so that it doesn't happen at future events.

All attendees, speakers, sponsors, and volunteers at our expo are required to agree with the following code of conduct. The organizer, Robert Bernardo, will enforce this code throughout the event. We expect cooperation from all participants to help ensure a safe environment for everybody.

Our expo is dedicated to providing a harassment-free show experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. We do not tolerate harassment of expo participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery are not appropriate for any expo venue, including talks, workshops, parties, Twitter and other online media. Expo participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the expo without a refund at the discretion of the expo organizer, Robert Bernardo.

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, technology choices, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.

When asked to stop any harassing behavior, participants are expected to comply immediately.

If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the expo organizer, Robert Bernardo, may take any action he deems appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the expo with no refund.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact the expo organizer, Robert Bernardo, immediately.

The expo organizer, Robert Bernardo, will be happy to help participants contact hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the expo. We value your attendance.

We expect participants to follow these rules at the expo and venue and expo-related social events.

It was great to have several SCCAN members at the show! Maybe we can get more next year. Also it was wonderful to have more of the general public in to see our machines (advertising pays off!). Everybody was very friendly and grateful that CommVEx was around.

Success measured in terms of congeniality and honor,
