ALERT! CommVEx 2017 moves back to Plaza Hotel!

In late summer/early autumn 2016, our original venue for the Commodore Vegas Expo, the Plaza Hotel in Las Vegas, was unavailable for 2017 reservations. Thus, CommVEx was booked into the California Hotel. However, there was always a chance that CommVEx could return to the Plaza when reservations were to open in April, 2017.

The Plaza Hotel opened up its reservations early! As of March 1, CommVEx is now booked into the Plaza Hotel for July 29-30! With the return to the Plaza, CommVEx exhibitors and attendees will have the perks of the hotel – Friday afternoon and evening set-up, unlimited Saturday evening showroom use, overnight storage in the showroom, and a relaxed Sunday take-down of equipment. As in years past, here is the schedule -

Friday set-up – 2 p.m. to the finish of set-up
Saturday set-up – 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Saturday official CommVEx showtimes – 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday unofficial CommVEx late-night – 5 p.m. to close of doors
Sunday set-up – 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Sunday official CommVEx showtimes – 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday take-down – 5 p.m. until everything is out of the room

Like last year, we have reserved the use of a 2,000 square foot ballroom with the possibility of another 2,000 square foot ballroom if it is vacant on the CommVEx weekend. At the moment, the only mystery is which ballroom we will receive. That will be announced later.

As CommVEx v13 gets ever nearer, I have been advised by the Plaza Hotel that they will not allow hand-written signs to be posted in their refurbished ballrooms; the signs must be printed out. No signs are to "be taped, tacked, or hung to any walls or doors". Signs can be professionally printed, and the hotel can put them on easels.

Today the last payment was made for the ballroom at the Plaza Hotel. CommVEx is now locked in!

With the success of our sister show, the Pacific Commodore Expo NW, attention is now turned to CommVEx. Time to concentrate even more on this show!

It has been changed to Ballroom 8.

I'm now on the road to Vegas, spending the night in Barstow. Whew, Tuesday night I spent 6 hours packing the car, and Wednesday night I took an additional 4 hours. The Ford Crown Vic is nearly packed to the ceiling, what with 2 tower systems, the PET 2001, and 3 large LCD monitors! (Too bad I couldn't use the FCUG treasurer's covered pick-up truck like last year.) Perhaps I can get a SCCAN member to take a wee bit more for me back to California after the show.

Perhaps I can get a SCCAN member to take a wee bit more for me back to California after the show.

No chance in that happening. And so the car is packed to the ceiling again! I can see through the front windshield but my view to the right is partly blocked by a box on top of the PET 2001. At least I can see the right hand mirror, because the view to the rear sides and the rear is totally blocked!
