Thanks for that. What caught my eye and confused me was that your 64c appears to have the dark brown keyboard from a breadbin 64 and the monitor looks like a 1084 but it's a lot lighter than I'm use to seeing. Franken-computer perhaps?

You've got a keen eye!

The story behind the 64c is that I got it with two missing white keys that had been replaced with brown keys from an older c64. I actually prefer the older keys, with the graphic charachters on the front of the keys instead of on the tops, so I swapped the keyboard out with an older c64 parts computer I have.

The monitor is a "Magnavox Color Monitor 80". It came Commodore-ready with a 5-pin serial connector on one end of the cable, and audio/video RCA connectors on the other end. That was the monitor I had with my original c64, but the original one died on me. When I went to look for a replacement on eBay a few years back, I actually found the exact same model for sale, so I bought it.

Can you tell me what monitor I should get for my 128D? Is that one a good choice?

Currently all I have is a 1702, so I need something that allows the 128 to display in 80 column mode.

Good news. You have lots of choices. You can use the monitors Commodore released specifically for the 128 like the 1901, 1902 and/or 1902a as well as some of the Amiga monitors like the 1070, 1080, 1084, 1084s, 1084s-DI and the 2002. There are probably a few others too (who can keep track?) As Andrew suggests, there are also a wealth of 3rd party monitors that support all of the 128's video modes. I should also point out that with the right cable your 1702 can display 80 column mode but only in monochrome. You're probably best off with one of the first three monitors that I listed though and while they're a little harder to find and a little more expensive than the 1701/1702, obtaining one shouldn't be too difficult.

Actually Gambit, Tequila's post is spam. What these parasites are doing these days is posting vague comments that sound like they could be on-topic so as to avoid being deleted by administrators. In point of fact, the post is meaningless and exists only so that people will click on the URL in their signature.

There are a variety of measures that can be introduced to make it more difficult for spammers. One forum I frequent doesn't allow new users to have a signature or an avatar until they've made 10 posts and they must enter a unique approval code on each and every one of those first 10 posts. It's a bit of a hassle but it seems to keep the scumbags at bay. Of all the web-based forums I visit (about 25), Commodore.ca seems to have one of the worst problem with spam and I suspect that the problem is that there aren't enough senior users looking out for and deleting such posts. Having a few people with clearance to delete such posts makes it much more likely that they'll be deleted before anyone sees them (which is a good thing because some of the spam posts I found today are quite offensive.) Anyway...

Admin: Please delete Tequila's post. It's not legitimate.
