Accommodations for CommVEx v9 2013

Post by rbernardo »

At last year's CommVEx, the Las Vegas Club Hotel, our show venue, had rooms available... but only on Friday, Saturday nights, and Sunday nights! I found out when I walked into the hotel on Wednesday to check out our conference room and discovered that there were no room guests walking through the hotel. Yes, there were people in the casino, but the front desk was empty, and the hotel hallways were deathly quiet. I later found out that the management was running the hotel at a loss in order to claim such a loss for tax purposes. Supposedly, when the loss was claimed, the management could then close down the hotel and refurbish it.

A few days ago I decided it was time to book my room. Better to be early than be sorry. I went to the website at

http://www.vegasclubcasino.net/

The hotel had dates only through April and seemingly only on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. When I tried to click on any of those open days, a message said that no room was available. It seems that the all the hotel rooms are closed off (I don't know about the casino.). Hotels.com and Priceline.com didn't list the Las Vegas Club Hotel, either.

However, the sister hotel, the Plaza Hotel across the street, had rooms for about $35 a weeknight and $53 for Friday or Saturday. http://www.plazahotelcasino.com or call toll-free (800) 634-6575

For those who want to compare hotel prices, go to

http://www.hotels.com

and you can specify "Fremont Street - Downtown Las Vegas" in order to narrow the search.

I found better pricing on

http://www.priceline.com

and booked the El Cortez Hotel & Casino, 600 East Fremont, at the east end of the Fremont St. Experience. The price for six nights was $151.30, not including the 13% hotel tax. To check out the El Cortez Hotel, go to http://www.elcortezhotelcasino.com or call (702) 385-5200 or toll free (800) 634-6703 .

Here's a deal. A few minutes ago, one of our veteran CommVEx attendees reported that the Plaza Hotel -- situated across the street from the sister hotel and our CommVEx venue, the Vegas Club Hotel -- has a sale on accommodations. See his message below

It might work for Vegas Club also.

Have to book before April 30th. I had to call to get it... the online system would not take the promo booking price.

If you are planning to come to the Commodore Vegas Expo v9 on July 27-28, now would be a good time to make those reservations by calling the Plaza at (800) 634-6575.

Hmmm... I called in January and booked rooms for the 26-29. They were cheap too, like $35 per night. You have to call the hotel directly in order to book any time after what their website allows.

I went even cheaper and booked my accommodations at the El Cortez Hotel. However, because it is at the other end of the Fremont St. Experience, I have to walk the four or so blocks to the CommVEx venue.

El Cortez Hotel is having a sale... just in time for CommVEx. Here is what they have to say --

"Book a two or three night stay in a beautiful El Cortez Tower Room between now and August 31st* and we will take 50% off your stay, leaving you more cash for the tables and the reels. It’s like getting a night for free. Which means you’re getting comped like a high-roller, before you’ve even touched the dice.

Nightly rates as low as $21/night!

BOOK ONLINE, or call room reservations at 800-634-6703 and use promo code WEB50."

Their online ticketing page is at
