CommVEx v3 accomodations

Post by rbernardo »

This year CommVEx v3 will be again at the classic Plaza Hotel & Casino, 1 S. Main Street, in fabulous downtown Las Vegas. The Plaza offers
reasonably priced, nice, comfortable rooms. http://www.plazahotelcasino.com

Don't forget... you only have until June 28 to reserve a room at the CommVEx hotel, the Plaza Hotel in downtown Las Vegas. Don't forget to mention the CommVEx name when reserving your room so that you can get the special rates.

A block of 10 rooms have been set aside for CommVEx. The rates are $60 per night Friday and Saturday, and $30 for Sunday night (all prices not including room tax).

The above pricing is for single or double occupancy. $10 per extra person per night, maximum of 4 people per room. Hotel occupancy tax is 11%. Check-in time is 3 p.m.; check-out time is 12 p.m.. Reservations are to be confirmed through individual call-in prior to *June 28, 2007*, by calling the Central Reservations Department at 1 800 634-6575 option 2 and saying that you are reserving under the group name, CommVEx. After June 28, any rooms remaining unsold will be released back to the hotel, and the group rate may not be available. Note: Saturday arrivals are not accepted unless approved by the Director of Sales or Central Reservations Manager. (If you think you'll be arriving on Saturday, tell me, and I'll try to work out something with the Plaza.)

There will be a $50 refundable deposit required should you wish to bill phone calls, food, etc., to your rooms. This deposit will be used toward any unpaid incidental charges.

The Plaza has a 24-hour gambling casino, several restaurants including a 24-hour coffee shop, showroom, tennis courts, a pool, and free parking. The Plaza Hotel lies at the foot of the glittery Fremont Street Experience. The Las Vegas Strip with its out-of-this world hotel casinos is a few miles to the south.

Though I have never stayed there, a good alternative hotel for accomodations seems to be El Cortez Hotel & Casino, 600 E. Fremont St. in Las Vegas. One CommVExer and his family have already booked rooms there and informed me of this hotel.

A few blocks to the east of the the Plaza Hotel (the CommVEx venue), El Cortez Hotel offers slightly cheaper rates than the Plaza. Sunday through Thursday nights are $25, $30, and $40, depending on room (not including room tax), and Friday and Saturday nights at $52, $57, and $80/night. Call 1 800 634-6703 or visit http://www.elcortezhotelcasino.com in order to book a room or to find out more information. If you book through the website, you will get various certificates/coupons to use at the hotel.

El Cortez Hotel offers amenities such as 2 buffet restaurants, a 24-hour coffee shop, a steakhouse, cocktail lounges and bars, a beauty salon, a barber shop, and a gift shop.

OK, Saturday arrivals are not allowed... but are Sunday check-outs allowed? Or are we required to stay for the three nights to get this rate?

Of course! Some CommVExers will leave on Sunday; others will stay until Monday (like me).

I just called to make my reservation, and I just wanted to share some information with anyone else who may be making a reservation in the coming weeks... After calling 1-800-634-6575 and selecting option 2, which is for Group Sales, the lady I talked to said that she wasn't able to make reservations, she only sets up sales for groups, so she transferred me to the reservations desk. So when you call, it'd probably be best to select option 1, which will take you directly to reservations. Then just tell them you're making a room reservation for the CommVEx group.

I was told that my credit card would be billed for the first night now, there is a 72-hour cancellation policy, and they require the $50 refundable deposit upon check-in. I somehow got the impression that the deposit was optional, only if you wanted to bill things to your room, but apparently it's required for "incidentals". No big deal... I don't plan on going crazy in my room.

They must have switched option numbers around.

Yup, required.

A friendly reminder... just one month to go before the close of reserving rooms at the CommVEx pricing. And 2 months before CommVEx v3!

I received clarification on the parking situation at our venue, the Plaza Hotel. Parking is free for the first 3 hours. Thereafter, it is $2 per hour with a maximum of $10 per day. Hotel guests have free parking.

Therefore, if you come to CommVEx without booking a room and you want to use the Plaza Hotel parking (most of it being in the parking garage, shaded from the hot, desert sun), you can pay for parking, or every 3 hours, move your car out of the lot and then re-enter for another 3 hours of free parking.

This Thursday, June 28, is the last day to book your special-priced accomodations at our CommVEx venue, the Plaza Hotel. If you haven't booked yet, do it right away. :-)

If you still have not booked by now, hotel rooms are available nearby. There are still rooms at the El Cortez Hotel --
http://www.elcortezhotelcasino.com -- and right across the street from the Plaza Hotel is the comfortable Vegas Club Hotel & Casino --
http://www.vegasclubcasino.net Both hotels have equivalent or slightly higher room prices when compared to the Plaza Hotel.

As of today, the El Cortez Hotel has booked all their cheaper rooms; the moderately-priced and the expensive rooms are still available. The Vegas Club Hotel still has rooms at comparable prices to the Plaza Hotel.

I just noticed this on the Plaza Hotel website:
Internet Access
The Plaza Hotel & Casino NOW offers access to the internet via a high speed wireless connection from anywhere in the hotel. Hotel tech support can be reached at 702.553.2788.
Freedom Wireless Prices: $9.95 per day, $5.50 per hour, $29.95 for 4 days, $49.95 for 7 days.
Looks like I won't need that dial-up line after all, Robert! Any chance it can be cancelled and you can save the money you were going to spend on it? Or maybe you still need it for something else???

Ah-ha, I will forward this information to Larry Anderson.

Yeah, I will look into cancelling the land line.

Thanks,

Because FCUG treasurer, Dick Estel, has cancelled out on CommVEx due to a serious illness in the family, the other bed in my room in the Plaza Hotel is open.
