The major stumbling block for CommVEx v3 is getting a meeting room at a good price.
My contact at the Plaza Hotel (the hotel being the venue for this year's CommVEx) is away on vacation. I left a message with an associate, and when my contact returns next week, then we'll talk about a show next year.

I spoke to Ruthie Allred of the Plaza Hotel, and she is agreeable to having us return on July 28-29, 2007, to the same meeting room (Jockey Room 1) and for the same pricing. However, it seems that accomodation prices will be changing. It looks as if accomodations will be $69/night on Friday and Saturday, and $30 for Sunday. I'll know more and confirm when I receive the contract (which is being mailed to me this Wednesday).

I received the contract and can now verify the details. Rental of Jockey Room #1 is at the same price. Accomodations for one or two persons will be $60/night for Friday and Saturday, $30 for Sunday (not including room tax). I'll fax back the signed contract on Monday.

On a side note, Ruthie informed me that RollerCon and the Pinball Fantasy Show will not be in the hotel next year. However, CommVEx will coincide with a "big", in-house karate tournament!

Too many pages to fax off at Office Depot. I sent the contract off via postal mail with 1/2 down payment for the room.

Our club treasurer gave me the final breakdown of the monies taken in vs. the costs of CommVEx v2. Not only did we break even, but we have a sum of money to devote to CommVEx v3 in 2007.

We're on our way!

At the Nov. 4-5 Vintage Computer Festival 9.0, our exhibit/vending table made money, i.e., we were able to pay off the cost of the space and have money left over. It was decided at this month's club meeting that the extra money should be applied to paying down the cost of CommVEx v3.

I'll be leaving for Las Vegas around the first weekend in January in order to meet up with people from the Plaza Hotel (our venue), to contact the local newspapers (and possibly University of Nevada, Las Vegas) for announcing CommVEx, and to visit a meeting of the Clark County Commodore Computer Club of Las Vegas.

Truly,

A bit of a change in the schedule. I wanted to leave on Thursday, but a weather front is coming in, and I don't want to get caught in it as it passes through the mountains. I'll try to leave on Friday, squeeze all of the contacts with broadcast media then, visit the Las Vegas C= club on Saturday, and then depart the town on the same day.

Happy New Year!

At this month's club meeting, it was decided to devote a portion of our treasury monies to fund CommVEx.

At the March club meeting today, it was decided to sell off an Amiga 1200 in order to fund CommVEx. Now all I have to do is figure out which A1200.

I was a day late to the April 4 MossyCon 3 but was still able to sell some C= hardware. Those monies will go to funding CommVEx v3.

Visited the Plaza Hotel yesterday and made the final payment for the CommVEx room. Met with the new catering person (not Ruthie anymore), and he informed me that the karate tournament will no longer be at the same time as CommVEx. However, there will be a Furniture show going on in the main exhibit hall.

Pick up your 3-piece suite of furniture then, ;-)

Official times of CommVEx v3 are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Unofficial times... the Friday night before the show in order to set up the equipment... and Saturday after 5 p.m.. Larry Anderson wants to keep the room open as long as possible for programmers to program, people to play, and Classic Gaming Expo stragglers to have a gander at the C= stuff. Larry volunteers himself to keep the room open. Any other takers? :-)

As the hotel says, when the door is locked for the
night, it stays locked until the next day,

Ick! Another change in the catering department of the hotel. Confusion reigns. Back in September, I was dealing with Ruthie; a few months ago, I was dealing with Jules. Now a new person heads the department -- Doreen.

And just like Jules, she didn't know anything about CommVEx except its name. Once again, I had to explain everything -- the times, the arrangement of the tables and chairs, the payments for the room (the first in September, the final in June), the times of the show, if any food was required... Yes, I was getting upset on the phone with her. Where were the records of all this? This was all finalized back in September, or so I thought. I didn't think this was a professional way to do business.

With the show in just two weekends, now is not the time to go over this again.
