Here are more details. During my meeting with Ken of the Plaza Hotel catering office, I was given the new contract; everything seemed the same -- Jockey Room #1, seating for 35-40 in a modified classroom seating order, etc.. Two differences for 2010 -- he told me that the usual snack table with its spread of munchies and sodas would not be permitted next year unless we pay a 22.5% fee for serving "outside" foods. He had no problem, though, with people bringing in their own individual snacks and drinks. Then there was the matter of paying the union workers their mandatory gratuity fee (a tip) for setting up the room. That charge was now added to the conference room contract, but Ken cut me a discount on the room that partially made up for that gratuity fee. In other words, I signed a contract which was only $12 above this year's contract. Whew!

I paid the $300 deposit to hold the room and left satisfied that CommVEx will continue for another year.

Truly,

After talking to Jeri Ellsworth yesterday, she seemed eager to create distinctive CommVEx badges out of laser-cut colored acrylic plastic. If all goes according to plan, each CommVEx attendee will receive a distinctive badge!

I'll try to get a picture up with the prototype badge,

Because the July 24-25 weekend is the 25th anniversary of the coming out of the Amiga computer, we'll be watching Amiga archival vids from the big-screen projector at CommVEx.

Ack! It seems that Ken of the Plaza Hotel catering is out, and Adora is in. They just can't keep anyone in a position very long. I hope I don't have to explain again our needs to the new help.

Change is constant over there,

Hmm, that puts in the mind of having a 25th anniversary Amiga cake for the show... :)

Last year C= cookies, this year Ami cake,

Unlike last year in which they made the successful C= cookies, Sunshine Cakes has bowed out of making a custom Amiga cake for the 25th anniversary. I will have to rely on another bakery.

What about a photo of an Amiga imprinted in cake top?

Last year at CommVEx, movies/t.v. shows on DVD were shown on Saturday night into the wee hours of Sunday morning in the meeting room. This year I was thinking of showing, Tron. At yesterday's SCCAN meeting, Josh Shiflet upped the ante by saying he would bring his deluxe Pioneer Laserdisc player (with automatic side-changing head) and show Tron on Laserdisc! Well, that got me into thinking about bringing some of my laserdiscs. Then Josh said he would bring a Beta tape player and tapes. Well, that got me into thinking about bringing some prerecorded Beta tapes.

Now all I have to do is pick the appropriate discs and tapes,

Last Friday Jeri told me that her laser cutter was not set up at her new house, and so, no badges from her. However, tonight at dinner, Migi Jones was willing to do so with her laser cutter. Hope lives!

Back from a fine dinner on the Seattle waterfront,
