CommVEx v15 2019 raffle and other prizes

Post by rbernardo »

This year's CommVEx has its first raffle prizes - a Commodore PET 2001 and a Commodore 128!

https://portcommodore.com/dokuwiki/doku ... vex_raffle

The PET 2001 is non-working at present, but it's being handed over to a CBM engineer in mid-May in hopes that the engineer can get it fully working!

Stay tuned for the progress on that,

The PET 2001 was handed over to Michelle on Sunday at the Bay Area Maker Faire. Hoping for the best on that machine!

Stay tuned for the progress on that,

Yow, Michelle has spent about 8 hours on the machine so far and has it 80% working! Showing me a picture on her cellphone, she reports that it powers up now, shows a screen, and works well. She replaced a burned-out chip, fixed a trace, and made sure the other chips were making contact in their sockets. On her to-do list to get it 100% working... the semi-colon key is not popping up (it's depressed), and the built-in cassette drive has to have its belts replaced. She doesn't like the look of the black, glossy PET label, saying it's starting to wrinkle, but I told her that duplicating the look of that foil label would be hard.

Whether the machine is 100% or not, I will pick it up in mid-July so that it can be raffled off at CommVEx!

Another CommVEx raffle prize! It's a VIC-20 system with the computer, computer box, VIC-1541 disk drive, 1530 Datasette, a cartridge (to be announced), power supply, and serial cable and disk drive power cable (may not have video cable or RF modulator).

This afternoon I picked up the PET 2001 for the CommVEx raffle!
On her to-do list to get it 100% working... the semi-colon key is not popping up (it's depressed), and the built-in cassette drive has to have its belts replaced.
The semi-colon key is now working! She put in an Amiga spring (bit of trivia... Amiga springs are smaller but springier. PET springs are larger but less springy.) To me, the feel when depressing the semi-colon key feels the same as the other keys.

The cassette drive has its belt replaced, capstans lubed, and heads cleaned. It works perfectly.

She powered the PET in front of me and ran a little BASIC program. No problem! Though the label on the back of the PET says it's a 2001-8, it only has 4K of memory (like a 2001-4). She does say that sometimes it doesn't show all of memory, and the only way to get out of that is to turn the machine off and then on. However, she says it's a beautiful machine with a small bit of rust on the case and a very good (letters legible on the keys) keyboard.

...raffle prizes -
Commodore PET 2001
Commodore 128
Commodore VIC-20 system
Whoa! Courtesy of Al Jackson of Las Vegas, we now have a working Commodore SX-64 for the raffle! It comes with JiffyDOS and the original keyboard cable. The blue caps at the handle ends are missing, though.

Video cable and RF modulator now included! Avenger game cartridge added to the system! Also, the VIC-20 Programmers Guide will be for sale at a very low price.

Our freebies for CommVEx attendees grows! In addition to newsletters from the Fresno Commodore User Group, there will be temporary C= tattoos, and courtesy of Randy Abel, leader of The Other Group of Amigoids (San Jose, California), there will be CD copies of his club's latest (2018) Amiga program library.
