A couple of hours late due to an accident that snarled the freeway but I have now arrived in Vegas. I'm at the Super 8 Hotel, 1213 S. Las Vegas Blvd., room 248, phone 702-331-0545.

Tired from the long day,

A busy day in Vegas. First, I met with Jillian of the Plaza Hotel; she is taking Kelly's place while Kelly is on vacation. Jillian took me to the ballroom for a preliminary look at it before Friday set-up. We've been given Ballroom 8 in addition to our original Ballroom 9! The place is HUGE! Now it's double the size at 4,000 square feet! The air-conditioning is really cold, colder than in the hallways (which I had previously thought were cool), and definitely way colder than our old rooms of past years. She told me it all had to do with the hotel electrical grid (which I did not understand). She also introduced me to James who is charge of setting up the chairs and tables. Yes, more chairs by the tables... more tables at the back of Ballroom 8.

We had one projection screen ready to go, though there were two others, too. I asked if those could be rolled down, but Jillian said the union hotel workers would have to do that (what? no button for one person to press?). That would mean we would have to be charged just to bring down the screens. No, thanks!

You can see the really big room at

Leading up to the Sierra Ballrooms, the main hallway was a plastic tarp wonderland -- tarps covering the ceiling, the walls, and even the pillars going up to the ceiling. At least, the floor was untarped. Jillian told me that the entire third floor was being reconstructed, but she didn't tell me why (heh, I know the answer to that).

I met with 5C's president Al Jackson, and after talking about an hour, I went off to buy more 25-foot/50-foot 14-gauge extension cords and more 12-outlet power strips for the expanded CommVEx room. Also I bought the usual refreshments and other necessaries for the CommVEx attendees.

So, after 5 hours of continuous driving, meeting with people, shopping for CommVEx goods, I returned back to the hotel room, tired and hungry.

A sandwich and a beverage later, I'm back on the computer forums and e-mail. Wait! I have to edit some videos for CommVEx. Oy, work is not done!

Getting sleepy,

Another busy day! When I arrived at the CommVEx room at about 2, the Portland Commodore User Group and the Clark County Commodore Computer Club were mostly set-up already. Saj A. was busy setting up the sound system, but heavy speakers and subwoofers were already in place. Way to go!

CBM engineer Bill Seiler arrived at 12 midnight, his Delta flight being delayed 3 hours and then a shuttlebus ride that delayed him even more. I think I'll have a club member take him to the airport on Sunday. No more shuttles for our honored guest!

Now for 5 hours of sleep,

The last day of CommVEx! It was an exciting Saturday with a number of firsts - the first presentation of a unicycle communicating to a C64 game, the first CBM engineer to repair a Commodore in front of our eyes, and the first showbiz celebrity to visit CommVEx! More on all of that later.

Sunday was a quieter day with more presentations and lots of door prizes and raffle prizes.

Time for hours and hours of sleep,
