A busy day in Vegas. First, I met with Jillian of the Plaza Hotel; she is taking Kelly's place while Kelly is on vacation. Jillian took me to the ballroom for a preliminary look at it before Friday set-up. We've been given Ballroom 8 in addition to our original Ballroom 9! The place is HUGE! Now it's double the size at 4,000 square feet! The air-conditioning is really cold, colder than in the hallways (which I had previously thought were cool), and definitely way colder than our old rooms of past years. She told me it all had to do with the hotel electrical grid (which I did not understand). She also introduced me to James who is charge of setting up the chairs and tables. Yes, more chairs by the tables... more tables at the back of Ballroom 8.
We had one projection screen ready to go, though there were two others, too. I asked if those could be rolled down, but Jillian said the union hotel workers would have to do that (what? no button for one person to press?). That would mean we would have to be charged just to bring down the screens. No, thanks!

Leading up to the Sierra Ballrooms, the main hallway was a plastic tarp wonderland -- tarps covering the ceiling, the walls, and even the pillars going up to the ceiling. At least, the floor was untarped. Jillian told me that the entire third floor was being reconstructed, but she didn't tell me why (heh, I know the answer to that).
I met with 5C's president Al Jackson, and after talking about an hour, I went off to buy more 25-foot/50-foot 14-gauge extension cords and more 12-outlet power strips for the expanded CommVEx room. Also I bought the usual refreshments and other necessaries for the CommVEx attendees.
So, after 5 hours of continuous driving, meeting with people, shopping for CommVEx goods, I returned back to the hotel room, tired and hungry.
A sandwich and a beverage later, I'm back on the computer forums and e-mail. Wait! I have to edit some videos for CommVEx. Oy, work is not done!
