This year at CommVEx we celebrate the 35th anniversary of the VIC-20 and the 40th anniversary of the KIM-1. For the VIC-20 we'll try to bring all the best examples of programs for the VIC-20. For the KIM-1, perhaps we can get FCUG member Brad S. to loan us his KIM-1 replica, the Micro-KIM from Briel Computers.

Happy New Year!

If we can't get the Micro-KIM, we can get a KIM Uno, found at

Every year since CommVEx v2, we've gone to the Main St. Station Hotel & Casino to partake of their fabulous buffet after our Saturday show. However, we do have vegetarian attendees who look for food at other times before, during, and after CommVEx. I think I have found a vegetarian restaurant relatively near our CommVEx venue, the Plaza Hotel. It's "VegeNation", located at 616 E. Carson Ave. (next door to the non-vege restaurant, "Glutton"). Here is a description of VegeNation, courtesy of the Allegiant Airline travel magazine -

"...VegeNation has a menu that reads like a love letter to veggies. All of its foods are plant-based and on the back patio are vertical towers for growing ingredients like Swiss chard and herbs. VegeNation sponsors and gets produce from two local school gardens. The restaurant also buys foods from local farms and farmers whenever possible. From the pizzas and East West Tacos to the Save the Tuna sushi and Italian Dumplings, you can't go wrong!"

CommVEx attendee Saj A., who works as a sound/lighting tech for dance clubs, has said he can provide wireless microphones, powered speakers, lighting, and even an audio-mixing console for us to use at the show. All that extra audio equipment will be needed for our extra-big CommVEx this year.

FCUG treasurer Dick Estel has once again graciously lent his Ford F150 pick-up with covered bed for me to use at CommVEx. Lots of room and lots of power with only a slight decrease in gas mileage when compared with my usual Ford Crown Vic. :)

5C's member Saj A. is our A/V man. He will be bringing powered speakers, wireless mics, a mixing board, and lights for the expanded CommVEx room.

The heat is grueling here in central California. However, in the Sunday heat I packed the car with C= goods out of the Stockton storage. On Monday I went to Fresno and filmed the CommVEx video presentations of FCUG member Roger V.. Today I met with FCUG secretary/treasurer Dick E., and I picked up his Ford F-150 truck and transferred the C= goods out of my car to his vehicle. Tomorrow I drive the truck to the Visalia storage and get more C= goods for CommVEx. At 6 p.m. I start the long drive to Vegas and should arrive there around midnight.

Speaking of the heat, Las Vegas is sweltering in 112 degree temperatures; by the time of CommVEx this weekend, it should drop down to about 105 to 107. As always to all attendees, drink plenty of liquids before, during, and after outdoor activities in the heat. Slow down and don't push yourself in the heat. Cover your head, stay in the shade, and stay inside for CommVEx! :)

The night before my Las Vegas departure,
