Guests and presentations at CommVEx v11

Post by rbernardo »

I have been remiss in mentioning the confirmed guests that we have coming to the show. So far, we have Jim Drew (programmer and hardware designer), Lenard Roach (author and programmer), Dick Estel (GEOS fan and writer), and John Ferrell (hardware hacker). Most of them are listed at

http://www.portcommodore.com/dokuwiki/d ... ons_guests

(John is listed under the Vendor Info.)

Keep an eye on the above link for more guests and the presentations which are to be offered.

Truly,

Coming from the Southern California Commodore & Amiga Network, Matt Brewster is going to finish up his video presentation on the C64 running from a Raspberry Pi. If not a video presentation, he is seriously considering a live presentation at CommVEx!

His first trip to CommVEx,

Matt hints that he may also present his core and game installer for the Multiple Classic Computer 216 (MCC-216). This installer runs on a Windows machine and makes it easy to drag and drop files into the MCC-216's file structure.

Yeah, making it easy to drop in C64 and Amiga games,

Lenard is planning his next book, "Shift-Clear/Home: More 8-Bits Thoughts In A Multi-Mega Byte World", and he'll be gauging the interest from CommVEx attendees.

Mike Battilana of Cloanto is coming all the way from Italy to attend CommVEx and then the Amiga 30th Anniversary celebration the next weekend in Mountain View, California. I've suggested to Mike that he can sell Cloanto's C64 Forever and Amiga Forever discs at our show.

The fourth time Mike has attended CommVEx,

At last Saturday's SCCAN meeting, Matt reconfirmed that he can demonstrate his installer for the MCC-216, but he said that it will only be a beta version.

Formerly with Atari back in 1987, engineer John Carlsen makes his first visit to CommVEx. He'll be presenting his C128 VGA adapter which displays the C128's 80-column screen in full color on a VGA monitor.

I just received some bad news. Roger damaged the MP3@64 board when he plugged it in incorrectly onto the MMC64. :( Perhaps it can be repaired at CommVEx. So, the MMC64 presentation will continue without the music board.

(snip)

The presentation either live or on videotape,
Roger will be at CommVEx to give his presentation live! That makes it the first time all of our FCUG officers -- myself, v.p. Roger, treasurer/disk librarian Dick Estel, and Grand Poobah of the VIC-20 Vincent Mazzei -- will be at the show.

Prepping for CommVEx,

At yesterday's SCCAN meeting, I saw the production C128 VGA adapter! Very sophisticated with surface-mounted components, and a step up from the two prototypes that were shown at CommVEx previously. He'll have exactly *six* adapters to sell at CommVEx. :) Since they are virtually hand-made, he said that it took him 3 hours just to build the six. His webpage is at

http://www.bit-c128.com

It's been awhile since the last update on the C128 VGA adapter, the last being at

http://blog.retro-link.com/2014/01/c128 ... otype.html

A photo of the new production boards can be seen at

http://blog.retro-link.com/2015/07/prod ... apter.html

Pricing to be determined later,
