Equipment needs for CommVEx v3

Post by rbernardo »

Looks as if I will have to fill Dick Estel's car and my car with all the equipment we need for CommVEx. Here is the list of the set-ups we'll be bringing:

Amiga CD32 + SX32
Amiga A500 or A600
SX-64
one PAL DTV, one NTSC DTV, one Hummer DTV
VIC-20
PET 4032

All (except the DTVs) will come with software so that attendees can use/play with them to their hearts' content.

If you have any specific equipment requirements, let us know,

We do not have a big-screen television monitor or any video projector with which to use for our presentations this year. If you can bring such a device to the show, we'd be very grateful.

How can I forget...? There will be three C128DCR set-ups, too.

Not including the West German PAL C64,
the British PAL C64, and the plastic C128D
for exhibit,

I'll also have my C128DCR setup for BBS'ing... So I guess there will be four there. :-)

And with the one in the raffle, that will make five! :-)

Larry Anderson may have solved the need for a big-screen t.v.. He wants to buy a 26-32" LCD t.v. in Las Vegas.

Hey, no California recycling tax!

To the probable delight of Andrew W., I will be bringing the recently unearthed Lt. Kernal hard drive.

FCUG storage is deep,

O.K., I put the CD32 in a safe place, but it's so safe, that I don't remember where it is! I've looked high and low, and I have the SX32 and the CDs for the machine. Trouble is where is the machine?

Ah, well, if I don't find it, then more room in the car!

Searched the house a fourth time. Still no CD32. In its place, I'll be bringing an Amiga 1200.

It looks as if we are picking up the t.v. today -- an Olevia 32" t.v. with all kinds of inputs including P.C.! It's highly rated by Consumer Reports, and it's only $550 (not including tax) from Circuit City.

The Olevia HDTV worked well; the image was clear and rock-steady. If only it were PAL-compatible, too...

Because our car was packed, we had to leave the Olevia behind, but it is being well-taken care of by 5C's president, Al Jackson. When I'm back in Las Vegas in 2 weekends, I'll pick it up from Al and bring it back to California.

Andrew checked out the Lt. Kernal on Saturday. A connecting cable had been hacked and thus wouldn't work on the only C64 we had at the show, Lenard Roach's. (However, we had scads of C128D's. :-) ) After further examination, Andrew reported to me on Monday that the original, 5 1/4", 20-meg mechanism was toast. He will put in a better connecting cable and another mech in order to get the Lt. Kernal running. Then he wants to come to a future FCUG meeting and do a presentation on it!

The Olevia is now safe and sound with Larry who picked it up from me on the 18th.
