Because the US site is overloaded, these links go to the Canadian Red Cross where you can designate your donation to go to the Katrina fund.

Could someone explain this bit too me...[V]

The US was very very busy and it was very very slow to respond at that time. As of todays date, the US site www.redcross.org appears to be functioning normally.
