Need an Obituary Editor

Post by administrator »

There have been a few people die recently that were not directly related to Commodore but were related to the 8 bit ecosystem and several people have suggested / recommended we add some mention of their passing to our site. To that end we have just added an TECH LEGENDS OBITUARY section which shows up in the main site in the top menu bar as OBITS: https://www.commodore.ca/category/tech-obituaries/

There are a few people I will personally be adding in the coming weeks like Paul Allen, Jack Tramiel and Jim Butterfield but it is not something I want to do ongoing, so we are looking for someone to add to that category.

I do not want to write obit's from scratch because there are so many good ones already out there. I think the best way to pay our respects is take a few snippets from an existing obit and provide full credit and links to the source. In this way the source gets some solid links (which helps them) and we do not spend days doing research to write a few paragraphs.

For example the legendary tech writer Tom Halfhill just told me that Bill Godbout died in the California wildfires so I used about 20% of TheRegister's fine obit. https://www.commodore.ca/2018/11/bill-g ... nov-2018/

If this is something you would like to do, please reply to this post and let us know.

After a few weeks of no response and an absolute deluge of other work on the site, we have decided to not pursue the Obits section. It has been moved to under our LINKS page and may just be removed outright in the future
