Powering the C64 via the disk drive

Post by Droote »

Is there a way to power the C64 without an individual power supply for the C64 itself, but rather through the disk drive as I only have a power supply to the disk drive?
Thanks!

I looked into that possibility fifteen or twenty years ago.

The advantage of feeding the juice into your C-64 the normal way, is the safety factor of having a fuse next to your ON/OFF switch.

Having a fuse is a really good idea.

Were you thinking of running the juice straight from the disk drive to the C-64, through the CBM serial bus? For instance, through the RESET line in the serial bus? It is ordinarily +5 volts DC, not the 120 Volts AC that your C-64 requires. You might be able to get your 6510 to clock a single tick, but that's not enough to do anything else along those lines.

Although I like your creativeness, and the idea of passing voltage along the RESET line shows novelty, proceed at your own Risk.
