Next SCCAN meeting - Saturday, Sept. 21

Post by rbernardo »

Happy Autumn, C= and Ami comrades!

The next meeting of the Southern California Commodore & Amiga Network is Saturday, Sept. 21, from 2 to 5+ p.m. at

Panera Bread Restaurant
19662 Nordhoff Street
Northridge, California
(818) 407-9400

We'll be talking about the July Commodore Vegas Expo v15 (CommVEx) and the upcoming Oct. 23-27 Amiwest Show in Sacramento. If you want me to look out for anything at Amiwest, tell me at the meeting. :)

The A2000 Video Toaster system will be brought in for updating, and the other usual equipment will be there ready to set up -- Ultimate 64, VIC-20, and Plus/4 (now fully-working after its TED chip was replaced). After seeing Archon in action at the Seattle Commodore Computer Club, I was thinking of running Archon on the C64 or Amiga for the enjoyment of us members! :)

Feel free to bring in any hardware or software you want to exhibit or discuss!

Next SCCAN meeting - Saturday, Nov. 9

Post by rbernardo »

Happy Thanksgiving, C= and Ami comrades!

The next meeting of the Southern California Commodore & Amiga Network is Saturday, Nov. 9, from 2 to 5+ p.m. at

Panera Bread Restaurant
19662 Nordhoff Street
Northridge, California
(818) 407-9400

We'll be talking about the recent Amiwest Show in Sacramento and the upcoming December 7 Downtown Los Angeles Mini-Maker Faire where we will have a table or two under the name of "Classic Los Angeles Computers!".

The usual Commodore gear that we run at the meeting will not present this time, because my car will be full of equipment from another haul, a haul that members can look through.

However, the Ultimate 64 will be present, this time updated with v1.24! Due to most of last month's meeting being devoted to looking over donated gear, we did not have time to play Archon. We'll have it running this month! And if Mario brings his Amiga 1000, we can have Archon running on the Amiga, too.

Feel free to bring in any hardware or software you want to exhibit or discuss!

Next FCUG meeting - Sunday, Nov. 17

Post by rbernardo »

Happy Thanksgiving, FCUG members and visitors!

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 2:00+ p.m., Sunday, Nov. 17, at

Panera Bread Restaurant
3590 W Shaw Ave. (corner of W. Shaw Ave. and Marty Ave.)
Fresno, CA 93711
(559) 271-0104
http://www.dickestel.com/meet_loc.htm

At this meeting we'll talk about the Amiwest Show which just happened a few weeks ago and the Downtown Los Angeles Mini-Maker Faire which is happening on Dec. 7.

In software, we'll try out the latest C64 Halloween games -- Luna, Forbidden Forrest, and Get Witchy. Also we'll also have more, new C64 games -- Rocket 'N Roll, ISS Emergency, Keystone Kapers, Croaky, Alien 8, and Zilsspleef. Then there is the music player compilation, XOXOX Softpack. Once again vice-president Roger may have his presentation ready on CAD 3D from IHT Software. For the VIC-20, we try out the updated "It Came From the Grave". For the Plus/4, we try out the new adventure, The Hut. The Amiga 500 returns with plenty of classic and recent game releases.

I'll be bringing in hardware from a recent pick-up of a collection. Free or minimal cost to those who want it!

Truly,

Next FCUG meeting - Sunday, Dec. 15

Merry Christmas, C= and Ami aficionados!

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 2:00+ p.m., Sunday, Dec. 15, at

Panera Bread Restaurant
3590 W Shaw Ave. (corner of W. Shaw Ave. and Marty Ave.)
Fresno, CA 93711
(559) 271-0104
http://www.dickestel.com/meet_loc.htm

The main topic of discussion will be the Downtown Los Angeles Mini-Maker Faire which was last Saturday. Also we'll have the election of officers and the vote for a charitable donation.

In hardware, we'll look at a newly-acquired 1541 Ultimate card drive, the Lotharek 6502Plus4 replacement board for the Plus/4, and the VIC-2066 -- the 35K switchable RAM expander with integrated SD2IEC from Jason Micari of Australia (presentation delayed from a previous meeting). We'll also talk about the latest progress on the Mega65 (clone of the C65 computer).

In software, we didn't get to finish with all of the recent game releases for the C64, VIC-20, and Plus/4 at the November meeting, and so, this time we'll try to catch up, along with new releases, Frostbite for the C64 and Donkey Kong Jr. for the VIC-20. The Amiga 3000 returns with its hard drive full of classic software.

Happy Valentines' Day, C= and Ami aficionados!

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 2:00+ p.m., Sunday, February 16, at

Panera Bread Restaurant
3590 W Shaw Ave. (corner of W. Shaw Ave. and Marty Ave.)
Fresno, CA 93711
(559) 271-0104
http://www.dickestel.com/meet_loc.htm

This month we may have special visitors coming from the Sacramento Amiga Computer Club! Make sure to give them a friendly Fresno greeting!

For discussion we'll talk about the April 4 City of STEM science show which is in Los Angeles, the April 25-26 Commodore Los Angeles Super Show (CLASS), the Vintage Computer Festival East happening in New Jersey at the same time as CLASS, the June Pacific Commodore Expo in Seattle, the tentative Amiga 35th show for the Bay Area, and the Downtown Los Angeles Maker Faire which is expanding to 2 days this year!

In software we'll look at the only side-scrolling game for the Commodore 128 in 80-column mode, Cloneimals, the original being released years ago and now the improved 2020 version being released a few days ago! Also we have the winner of the C128 80-column coding competition, BucketWars! For the C64/128 we look at 1541 Ultimate II and the 1541 Ultimate II+ cartridges. Also for the C64, we have another look at the FCUG New Members' Disk and the new Shoot'Em Up Construction Kit game, Spearhead. In classic Amiga business, we look at the Amiga 3000 which has been upgraded to the latest WHDLoad and with more games installed into it, courtesy of Duncan M. of The Other Group of Amigoids in San Jose. I'll show how I've been translating the German Pagefox manual into English with the use of the A.L.I.C.E. laptop. (As of today, 33% of the 69 pages translated!)

After the meeting, Bernardo Studios opens, and we'll be filming Roger's CAD presentation for CLASS.

Next FCUG meeting - Sunday, March 22 (postponed)

Post by rbernardo »

With my arrival from overseas yesterday, I have just learned the news that Fresno Mayor Brand is closing all restaurants, due to the Covid-19 crisis. That means our venue, Panera Bread Restaurant in Fresno, will be closed (except for take-out) when we were to have our scheduled March 22 meeting. Therefore, our next meeting will be in April, unless circumstances change.

Not having to postpone a FCUG meeting since the early 2000's,

I've just heard the news that all L.A. gatherings of 10 or more people are prohibited until April 19. With the changing situation of moving dates, I am postponing any future SCCAN meetings until more is known.
