My dear C= and Ami comrades,

Due to the ongoing pandemic crisis and the unavailability of our meeting place venue, the May 9 meeting of the Southern California Commodore & Amiga Network has been cancelled.

In the meantime, I've been updating my Amigas and Ultimate 64. I hope you all are well and have been keeping busy.

Happy summer, C= and Ami comrades,

The July 11 meeting of the Southern California Commodore & Amiga Network is cancelled, due to the on-going pandemic and restrictions at our venue, Panera Bread Restaurant in Northridge, CA.

In the meantime, I encourage all to check out the the Kickstarter for a new book from David Pleasance and Trevor Dickinson, entitled "From Vultures to Vampires". This book will fill in the period from the demise of Commodore Business Machines to today's Next Generation Amiga computers. The deadline for the Kickstarter is July 19, and you can find it at

Dear C= and Ami aficionados,

Happy July! Our usual third-Sunday-of-the-month meeting is cancelled, due to the Covid-19 crisis and the restrictions placed at our venue, Panera Bread Restaurant in Fresno.

Meanwhile, I still intend to visit C= repairperson Ray Carlsen in southern Washington state (now delayed until Sept. or Oct.) and make a big order from AmigaKit.com (gotta keep the classic Amigas happy).

Dear C= and Ami aficionados,

Wow, how time is less specific during the pandemic! :) Happy August! Our usual third-Sunday-of-the-month meeting *was* cancelled, due to the Covid-19 crisis and the restrictions placed at our venue, Panera Bread Restaurant in Fresno.

However, we are looking into a "socially-distanced" club picnic lunch for October! :)

Greetings, C= and Ami aficionados,

Happy September... and especially today, National Apple Dumpling Day! ;) Our usual third-Sunday-of-the-month Fresno Commodore User Group meeting is cancelled, due to the Covid-19 crisis and the restrictions placed at our venue, Panera Bread Restaurant in Fresno.

As for our October picnic lunch, I will be visiting Fresno next week to look into restaurant outdoor patios and even city parks (for a real picnic!) where we could have a "socially-distanced" get-together! :)

Hoping the smoky skies are less in October,

FCUG picnic lunch - Sunday, Oct. 18

Post by rbernardo »

Happy autumn, C= and Ami aficionados!

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its annual “picnic” lunch at 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 18. The location – Casa Corona Mexican Restaurant at 7044 N Cedar Ave. (on the northeast corner of Cedar and Herndon Aves.) in Fresno.

Due to pandemic concerns, please bring your masks, and please be on time as nearly as you can, so that we may be seated in the outdoor patio at socially-distanced tables. As is traditional, the club will pay for the members’ lunch.

This is the first meeting since spring, so it will be good to see all who come to the lunch. Whether it’s small talk, Commodore/Amiga talk, or catching up on what’s going on your life, we’ll all be listening at the picnic lunch!

Truly,
Robert Bernardo
Fresno Commodore User Group - http://www.dickestel.com/fcug.htm

P.S. If you have any hardware orders to place or Commodore equipment to repair, I will soon be heading to the Pacific NW for a visit with Ray Carlsen.

Next FCUG meeting - Sunday, Nov. 15

Post by rbernardo »

Happy almost Thanksgiving, C= and Ami aficionados!

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 12:30+ p.m., Sunday, November 15, at

Panera Bread Restaurant
3590 W Shaw Ave. (corner of W. Shaw Ave. and Marty Ave.)
Fresno, CA 93711
(559) 271-0104
http://www.dickestel.com/meet_loc.htm

Note the shorter time duration of the meeting; this is due to the fact that the venue is limiting our time there due to the Covid crisis.

This will be our first meeting since February! We will be meeting in the covered patio, and we'll be seated socially-distant from each other. Everybody should bring a mask. I'll bring hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, and paper towels for everybody's use.

Because of the brief meeting, our agenda will be short -- take care of November and December business, watch some C64 nuvies and play one or two of the latest C64 games, like BoxyMoxy. Originally, I was planning to bring the Amiga 600 so we could look at the classic Deluxe Music Construction Set, but it will have to wait until a future meeting.

Speaking of future meetings, a December meeting is not assured, due to weather conditions. For the November meeting, it should be sunny with temps at about 60 at our meeting time.

Truly,

Next SCCAN meeting - July 10, 2021 (tentative)

Post by rbernardo »

Happy New Year and Happy Valentine's Day, C= and Ami comrades!

It has been a long time since we've had a meeting... way too long. However, with about 200K people a day being vaccinated against Covid here in California, there is a time frame in which we can have meetings again!!!! :) If the vaccination quota is maintained, then by late June, 80% of Californians should have a second shot. So, I am tentatively scheduling a SCCAN meeting for July 10 at Panera Bread, Northridge. We may be outside in the patio, but I can bring in a battery to power our 120v devices! :)

Watch this thread for further updates.

Sincerely,
Robert Bernardo

Greetings, C= and Ami aficionados!

It's been some time since we've had a meeting... since November, 2020, to be exact. With the Covid vaccinations moving along at a good pace, Covid infections at a low rate, and venue restrictions loosening, I'm announcing that we will have monthly meetings, starting with the July 18, 2021 meeting. We'll be at the Panera Bread Restaurant on West Shaw Ave. in Fresno.

It'll be good to see everybody. Be prepared to have a good Commodore/Amiga time!

Way in advance,
Robert Bernardo

Next SCCAN meeting - July 10, 2021 (confirmed)

Post by rbernardo »

Happy 4th of July, C= and Ami comrades!

The next meeting of the Southern California Commodore & Amiga Network is Saturday, July 10, from 2 to 5+ p.m. at

Panera Bread Restaurant
19662 Nordhoff Street
Northridge, California
(818) 407-9400

For discussion we'll talk about our activities during our long absence due to the pandemic. Also we'll talk about the Nov. 6-7 Commodore Los Angeles Super Show to be held at the Burbank VFW Hall. Share any ideas you have for this year's CLASS! And that's not forgetting about the Oct. 16-17 Amiwest Show in Sacramento!

I'll be bringing in the Ultimate 64, loaded with over a year's worth of new C64 programs and a few classic oldies. We'll look at an untested A570 CD-drive along with its RAM expansion and SCSI adapter. We'll examine the SD Drive Z2 from Irix Labs.

Also free for anyone to have, there will be LCD VGA monitors and classic, commercial Amiga software.

If you have any Commodore hardware that needs repair, I will be visiting Ray Carlsen in late September or in October; I can pick up your equipment and transport it to him for repair.

Feel free to bring any other hardware/software that you wish to show off! And you are strongly recommended to be fully vaccinated before coming to the meeting!

Sincerely,
Robert Bernardo

P.S. My thanks to member Mario for scouting out Panera Bread Restaurant in order to see if it was o.k. in these post-Covid restriction times.

Just a reminder that the SCCAN meeting is next Saturday! Member Jeff is going to bring his s-video modded VIC-20 so we can see how he did the mod.
