Sounds like a problem with the switches/contacts inside the joystick. Take it apart and clean/check those.

Just wondering if anybody might have any info on this cartridge put out by Skyles Electric Works? Apparently it was a BASIC 4.0 language extension for the C64. I have been looking for documentation but haven't found anything on the net.
