The original Commodore PLA chip used to much juice, and created to much heat. Some of the new EEPROM based chips can cure this problem. Some have had very real compatibility issues, but even that is old news now. Check this news out.

Re: Unknown model
Heh, it looks like a homebrew SX-64, except without the built-in monitor. Happy New Year! I would love to look inside the case to see what they did in there. There's enough room for all sorts of upgrades. I have seen some strange C-64s: http://www.instructables.com/id/Commodore-64-Laptop/ But this ...

Re: 1351 mouse issue
Oh, that looks like a metal collar around the mini D plug. That means it is an Amiga mouse, which is not compatible with Commodore. Truly, If it were truly a 1351 mouse, it would have "1351" printed on on the bottom of the mouse. It can be hard to tell the difference between the 1351 and Amiga ...

Re: Ray Carlsen's new C64/128/VIC-20CR/Plus4 power supplies.
I am really glad to see these power supplies hit the market. So many C-64s have been killed by the infamous "brick" PSU it's a shame. I have seen many people use two wall warts of 5 VDC and 9VAC wired together to power the C-64, while this does work, it's a sloppy solution. Jim Brain is working on a ...

Re: Commodore 64's lifespan during the 80's and 90's
I got my first C-64 in 1983, by 1986 I had an Amiga 1000 (got a c-128 just before the Amiga) by 1996 I had a working C-64, C-128D and Amiga computers, including an A1200. Must have been about 2002 I got my first Windows machine. Today I have a Windows Tower pc, An Amiga A2000, 030, SD/FF and 21Mbs ...
